  • Latex: Latex is a durable, eco-friendly material that has a uniquely supportive, buoyant feel.

What Size Trundle Bed Mattresses Do You Sell?

  • 4.5” Trundle Mattresses
    • Our popular Deluxe Trundle Mattress is double-sided for two feels in one. One side is a cushion firm thanks to gel memory foam and the other side is a firmer high-density foam. Just flip it over to adjust the feel. The gel memory foam means you’ll sleep cooler, too!

What is the Difference Between Trundle Mattresses and Twin Mattresses?

Many trundle beds accommodate standard twin mattresses, which are 38” x 75”. The bottom trundle sometimes requires a shorter mattress or a thinner mattress.

Pop-up trundles, in which the bottom trundle can be raised to the same level as the top trundle to create one larger sleeping surface, usually accommodate two standard twin mattresses that are the same height.

Standard twin XL mattresses, which are 38” x 80”, are usually too long for trundle beds.

Some trundle beds have full-size mattresses. MattressInsider.com specializes in custom mattress sizes. Call us to discuss your needs! 888-488-1468

What Are the Dimensions of a Trundle Bed Mattress?

Trundle mattresses come in a variety of sizes.

  • The top twin mattress is typically 38” x 75”
  • The bottom twin mattress is often shorter, for example, 38” x 72”
  • Common sizes include 38” x 72” and 28” by 72”
  • Trundle mattresses are typically thinner than traditional twin-size mattresses and range in height from 4”-8”. The top trundle can usually accommodate a taller mattress than the bottom trundle.

MattressInsider.com makes custom mattresses for trundle beds.

Do You Offer a Trundle Bed Mattress Protector?

Yes! Lots of companies offer mattress protectors that only protect the top of a mattress. Our six-sided Trundle Mattress Protector creates a fortress, protecting your entire mattress!

Where Can I Find a Trundle Bed Mattress Topper?

If your existing trundle mattress is lumpy, bumpy or just plain uncomfortable, we’ve got a solution! We offer two trundle mattress toppers that can transform your existing trundle mattress into an inviting place to sleep.

  • Our 2” Brookside Memory Foam Trundle Mattress Topper uses high-density 4 LB memory foam, like some premium mattresses. The cover is made of environmentally friendly, super-soft luxurious organic cotton. Custom-fit elastic bands on all four corners ensure a snug fit. No slipping around.
  • Our 2″ Custom Memory Foam Trundle Mattress Topper is perfect if you have an unusual or odd-size mattress. It is made with 3 LBs of Preserve CertiPUR-US-certified visco elastic memory foam. You’ll sleep cool because this open-cell foam promotes airflow and eliminates heat buildup during the night. And it’s sturdy enough to last through 7-10 years of nightly use. This topper comes with an optional removal zippered organic cotton cover.

If you plan to use a topper on a bottom trundle mattress, measure your existing mattress and the clearance space to see if the topper can be left in place when the bottom trundle slides back under. Questions? Call us! 888-488-1468

Multifunctional Trundle Beds Are Space Savers

Definition of a Trundle Bed

Some people ask us, What is a trundle bed?

A trundle bed is a two-in-one, space-saving piece of furniture. Like a bunk bed, it has both a top and bottom mattress. But a trundle bed allows the bottom mattress to be tucked away under the top mattress when it’s not being used for sleep.

A trundle bed’s bottom mattress platform is on casters or rollers, making it easy to pull in and out. Sometimes the bottom mattress sits in a trundle drawer.

Pop-up trundle beds allow the bottom mattress to be raised to the level of the top mattress, creating a larger sleeping surface. Pop-up versions are good for guest rooms, where two adults sleep together.

Perfect for Kids’ Rooms, Guest Rooms and Small Spaces

Trundle beds are ideal for guest rooms and for children’s rooms — or any room where you’d like to have additional beds for sleeping but don’t have a lot of space.

Unlike bunk beds, they provide a top mattress surface that can be used as a daybed. That makes them perfect for multipurpose rooms like dens or home offices that need to be used occasionally by houseguests.

Trundle beds also are great for large families with more kids than bedrooms. With the bottom trundle tucked away, kids have more room to play and do schoolwork.

Do you live in a small apartment or tiny house? Multifunctional trundle beds make the best use of limited space.

Daybed Vs. Trundle Bed

A daybed features one twin mattress that can be used for sleeping at night and for seating or relaxing during the day. You can think of a daybed as a cross between a bed, a loveseat and a chaise lounge.

A trundle bed has two twin mattresses to accommodate two sleepers. The bottom mattress can be slid under the top mattress (sometimes in a drawer) and secured until it’s needed again.

When the top mattress of a trundle bed isn’t being used for sleeping, it can function as a comfy daybed where you can read or watch TV. Think of a trundle bed as a bunk bed that takes up less space.

Traditional Trundle Vs. Pop-Up Trundles

There are two main types of trundle beds.

  • A traditional trundle bed has a low bed, on wheels or casters, that can be stored under a top bed, and pulled out for sleep. In a traditional trundle bed, the bottom mattress stays on the floor, below the top mattress.
  • A pop-up trundle bed allows the bottom mattress to be raised up to be the same height as the top mattress. This creates a larger sleep surface for two sleepers — more like a regular queen mattress.

Key Advantages of a Trundle Bed

  • Saves space
  • Versatile: Can be used in guest rooms, kids’ rooms, small apartments, tiny houses — anywhere you need extra sleeping space that doesn’t take up much space
  • Can be used nightly or for occasional guests
  • Daytime comfort: The top mattress functions like a daybed
  • Extra seating: The top mattress can be used like a sofa or chaise lounge

Are Trundle Beds Comfortable for Adults?

If you are comfortable on a twin or full mattress, you should sleep well on a trundle, which is a similar size.

If you like a bit more room, a pop-up trundle is a good choice. It raises the bottom mattress to the height of the top mattress to create a wider sleeping space.
